The GashlyCrumb Tinies - You have a terribly wicked
sense of humour and people are drawn to your
wit. Children beware of the thin, pale man
with the black umbrella!
Which Edward Gorey Book Are You?
brought to you by Quizilla
Heh. I always loved that book.
For My Own Sanity - Things to do:
Write my resume
Pay my tuition bill
Call the IRS...
Register for my Praxis content knowledge exam
Reply to emails
Clean my junk out of my brother's room before he comes home
Call the bank
Write the registrar requesting that my summer course count as a bio credit rather than as a perspective
Oy. The cleaning bit is bound to take all day tomorrow.
Today (yesterday!) was my mother's birthday, and there was actually some sunshine during the day! It didn't start to rain again until five this evening. It was so amazing; one would think that we didn't know what the sun was we were so astounded by the sight of it. With all of this drizzly-rainy-ness, I just like to pretend that I'm somewhere else, say, Seattle or Scotland. Unfortunately, the dream has ended after the first five days when I realize that I haven't travelled on a vacation anywhere for longer than overnight in the last...oh, five years? Right. So.
Anyway, Mom said that she had a really great birthday, and I think that the sun had a lot to do with it. I was starting to think that there were going to be a rash of murders in our area soon due to the crummy weather. It reminded me of that story in The Illustrated Man. Man, I couldn't stand that book.

Have yet to see X-Men 2 and The Matrix 2 - I've heard great things about X2 (and am desperately trying to not be spoiled about the plot), and not-so-great things about The Matrix 2. For M2, I've heard that it's "long-winded". If it's full of all that philosophy stuff that the first one also contained, I can see that I would feel the same about it. As much as I liked the first one (I bought it, so), I only really remember the action/fight scenes. Most of the plot mumbo-jumbo-Zion-yadda-yadda stuff confused and bored me during the first one. This, of course, might have had absolutely nothing to do with the movie and more to do with me and my capacity for understanding things outside of reality. Anyway.
I'm home now for four weeks, which is nice. I've got to write my resumé for Tuesday, though, as well as finish up replying to emails and tying up loose school ends. Which reminds me: must register for last PRAXIS exam this week! Also, pay your summer tuition bill. And! Get in contact with the lady who is in charge of summer tutors if you want the tutoring job... which I do. Badly. So that when I'm done tutoring at the end of Summer 1, my resumé can be updated and all shiny and sparkly for the fall.
Ah, incoherently typed, grammatically incorrect sentences. Yes, summer session is upon us.

"Mini-Nukes": this is very upsetting. ::doesn't understand people::
Email: I'm behind again, I realize. Finals week will be over this week, and I'll be going home. Soon, kids. Soon.
Anyway. Rusted Root rocks my world. Just sayin'.

How Would YOU Take Over the World?
Heh.
In other news, the humidity is driving me insane. I have the AC jacked up in my room. I'm freezing, but at least I'm not swimming in the air.

Score! (^____^)
I got my field placement for next semester with the teacher I had this semester! While I was working with her, she told me that she wanted me as her student teacher in the fall, and it's really great because we get along so well. One of my professors must have gotten it arranged for us, because I was supposed to have someone else. So in the fall, I'll be teaching a learning support biology class and fresh water biology in block scheduling! Block scheduling is the best thing to have happened to science classes in Pennsylvania - you have approximately 82 minutes for each class, which means that you have plenty of time for labs and things like that.
So, is life good? You better believe it. (^_^)
Now for a bit of fun:
You Know You're From or In Pennsylvania If:
You've never referred to Philadelphia as anything but "Philly." And New Jersey has always been "Jersey." (And you go to the "shore," not to the beach.)
You refer to Pennsylvania as "PA" (pronounced Pee-ay). How many other states do that?
You know what "Punxsutawney Phil" is, and what it means if he sees his shadow.
The first day of buck and the first day of doe season are school holidays.
You can use the phrase "fire hall wedding reception" and not even bat an eye.
At least 5 people on your block have electric candles in all or most of their windows all year long.
You know what a "Hex sign" is.
You own only three condiments: "salt, pepper, and Heinz Ketchup".
Words like "hoagie", "crick", "chipped ham", "sticky buns", "shoo-fly pie", "pierogies", and "pocketbook" actually mean something to you.
You can eat cold pizza (even for breakfast) and know others who do the same. (Those from NY find this "barbaric".)
You not only have heard of Birch Beer, but you know it comes in several colors: Red, White, Brown, Gold.
You know several places to purchase or that serve Scrapple, Summer Sausage (Lebanon Bologna), Taylor's Pork Roll, and Hot Bacon Dressing.
You can eat a cold soft pretzel from a street vendor without fear and enjoy it.
You know the difference between a cheese steak & a pizza steak sandwich, and know that you can't get a really good one outside PA.
You live for summer, when street and county fairs signal the beginning of funnel cake season.
Customers ask the waitress for "dippy eggs" for breakfast.
You know that Blue Ball, Bird-in-Hand, Beaver, Moon, Paradise, Mars, and Slippery Rock are PA towns.
You know what a township, borough, and commonwealth is. (At least you vaguely remember.)
You can identify drivers from New York, New Jersey, or other neighboring states by their unique and irritating driving habits.
A traffic jam is ten cars waiting to pass a horse-drawn carriage on the highway in Lancaster County.
You know several people who have hit deer more than once.
You carry jumper cables in your car and your female passengers know how to use them.
You still keep kitty litter, starting fluid, de-icer, or a snow brush in your trunk, even if you live in the south.
Driving is always better in winter because the potholes are filled with snow.
As a kid you built snow forts and leaf piles that were taller than you were.
Most of your friends have German & Italian names.
"You guys" is a perfectly acceptable reference to a group of men & women.
You know how to respond to the question "Djeetyet?" ("Did you eat yet?")
You learned to pronounce Bryn Mawr, Wilkes-Barre, Schuylkill, Bala Cynwyd, and Monongahela.
You know what a "Mummer" is, and are disappointed if you can't catch at least highlights of the parade.
You actually understand these, and send them on to other Pennsylvanians.

So, I just got back from getting a mandatory TB test at the school infirmary. The nurse who took my blood pressure also took my pulse and listened to my heart before giving me the test. She said that my heart sounded irregular, and she could hear a bit of a murmur (sp?) in there.
Well, damn. Just what I don't need. Although I have to wonder if maybe it was because I wasn't breathing when she was near me - I was trying not infect her with my cold virus. (^_~)
Anyway. Thursday night is the Rusted Root concert here at my school, and Saturday is my club's garden dedication ceremony ::crosses fingers for decent weather::. Life is so good, I hardly know what to make of it sometimes. :^D
Well, class in forty minutes, and I haven't finished an assignment yet. Typical...

Heeheehee. The computer used to keep the print job queue from getting too unweildy has a screen saver that reads "Touch the Screen" in ever-changing colors. It's floating around the monitor all zen-like.
Heh. Touch the screen. Ommmmmm....
::is hysterical:: I have 3/4 of a page left, and I have run out of all of my bs-ing abilities. I admit it; I can't bs to save my life - or my grade, apparently. It's almost 2:30 am now. I don't feel tired - just burned out from staring at the computer screen most of the day.
::sigh::

Let's see, what shall I complain about first?
It's after 1:30 in the morning, I have class at nine, this ten-page paper - of which I've only finished eight pages - is due during the same nine am class, I have a head cold and am virusing all over the place, I'm stuck in this musty computer lab in which it must be 90F, my back hurts, and if I read any more about soluble fiber, I think I'm just going to crawl into a corner and gibber quietly for the rest of the night. Preferably, a nice, cool corner. But, you know, it's just one of those nights.
What did I do to deserve this? ::cries::

I <3 my parents. ^__^
In other news, I went to Hershey Park for the first time on Friday. It was very cold and rainy; thus, there was hardly anyone there! It was like having the whole park to ourselves. A very cold and rainy park, but hey, who's complaining? (^__^)
I went to M's family's house for Easter dinner Sunday morning and had lots of fun, too. I feel like part of the family now. It was the first time in three years that I'd done anything fun for Easter, so it was definitely a welcome change.
Thursday and Friday of this week I'm teaching "outdoor school" for seventh graders at a local nature preserve. My station is "Pest Management and Orienteering". Woo-hoo! Let's go get lost in the woods and be attacked by gypsy moths, kids! ::g:: Anyway, that should be a learning experience all on its own. The only drawback is that we aren't allowed to leave our stations the whole day - not even to use the bathroom. O_o Eep. ^_^;;
Finally, I only slept two hours last night and was up at 4:15 this morning. I'm fairly functional (though I wouldn't trust myself to drive at this point). I'm so proud of myself. ^___^

Ah, the joys of getting up before your alarm that is set for 5:15 AM. But! I must say, I really lucked out with my field placement this semester. The high school teacher I'm working with rocks. Also, I get to teach next Tuesday! Score! Unfortunately, I still have to worry about the other crapwor- erm, classwork from my regular courses. That's what the weekend's for, yes?
In other news, my friend M. bought me monkey Mardi Gras beads from New Orleans over spring break. Heheheh. Monkeys and kangaroos and penguins, oh my!

It has a certain ring to it:
My goddamn rock solid ghetto shiznit name is Tempestuous Teapot, Yo.
What's yours?
Powered by Rum and Monkey.
How can you not like a site with the domain name of rumandmonkey.com?
I really don't have much to say on anything. I thought about tons of stuff, but I've forgotten a lot of it at this point. Much of it was war-related, so I've probably blocked it out. PBS documentaries and old episodes of CSI that I missed during their original runs have been my refuge the last couple of days. That, and reading fiction, of course. How I love my escapist ways...
[1:12 AM] insomnia --> Randomness
The Topics Blog is apparently now defunct, but there are still archives to go through. Yay!
Favorite US quarter thusfar (paraphrased): Connecticut's, hands down. Love that tree.
What is the last book you read? Did you like it?: School Girls: Young Women, Self-Esteem, and the Confidence Gap by Peggy Orenstein. Yes, I liked it very much - it illustrated a lot of things which girls have to go through while in school, some of which I wasn't even aware of until after reading the book and thinking retrospectively. Highly recommended for anyone who is willing to look at the lives of today's girls in schools.
What kind of shoes do you have on? - Socks!
How old-fashioned are you about sex? Do you consider yourself open minded? - very open-minded; TMI? You betcha! (and all this time I had thought that TMI stood for Three Mile Island - d'oh!) Seriously, though, people should be able to do what they want, so long as it doesn't hurt anyone. And they leave me out of it. Yes, I'm a loner. Go away. And the sodomy laws? WTF? I figure, they're not making babies, and that's a good thing. So the problem is...? Anyway.
Who are some of your favorite artists? Photographers? Provide links if you can.: Ansel Adams! Um, google it. You'll find tons, promise.
Do you wear jewelry? What jewelry? Not having labs these days has been great - less chance of permanently damaging the silver. Still, I irregularly wear bracelets (copper, silver, leather, shoelace!), necklaces (black cord/pendants, silver choker with tiger eye and torqoise, others), and my silver/onyx high school ring.
Do you feel that equality has been achieved between the sexes? Why or why not? - no. Equal pay for equal work, goddammit. Also, the double standard where men who sleep around are cool while women who do are sluts (of course, wouldn't it just be best if people would choose one person (or two or three - share the group love, yo) to stay with? None of that one-night-stand business. Which brings us back to the original point.
What clearly defineable things do you want to have accomplished by the end of the year? Get a new job? Get published? Lose 10 pounds? - survive student teaching with my sanity intact. I've heard enough horror stories, thankyouverymuch.
What are five places in the area where you live (city, county, region) that you would recommend a visitor see? - hmmm.
1) Silver Lake
2) The sculpture gardens in Hamilton, NJ
3) Peddler's Village
4) Philadelphia Zoo
5) Bowman's Tower
What are your feelings towards friendships? Would you rather have a few close friends, or a big group of friends? - few close friends, as in finish-each-others'-sentences close. Friends who you don't mind making a fool of yourself in front of because they love you anyway, and, really, you'd do the same for them. I'm lucky to have such friends. (^_^)
What are your earliest memories? - playing in the yard with my brother in Ohio - catching butterflies, feeding grass to the neighbor's cows, playing at being pirates in the milkweed patch along the driveway with Famous Amos, the neighbor-on-the-hill's dog.
Hmm. 2 AM. Well, there you go.
